LEAN THEATRE" AND ITS ROLE MODEL

Something must have gone wrong with me. I had in recent years been mored inspired by works of art than by people - until this evening, when I went to hear 5 theatre people talk about their vocation at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre. The last words pronounced by the moderator, Pradit Prasartthong, inspired me beyond any description: MONEY IS NOT THEIR AIM IN L...IFE. THEY CHOOSE TO DO WHAT THEY LOVE, and their love is the theatre.
Pradit was joined by Sineenat (Crescent Moon), Jarunee (B-Floor), Pavinee (Democrazy Theatre) and Sunond (Pichet Dance Company). The word that came up all the time was rehearsal. I have seen all of them perform and can testify that they never go public with any slapdash work. Normally they don't earn enough to pay themselves artists' fees, but they remain dedicated to their art. They are the "Lean Theatre" that feels no inferiority to the "musical"-fed "Plump Theatre".
I don't admire them just because of the quality of their work (which fortunately has been recognized internationally), but also because of their attitude to life. They deserve to be regarded as the role model for our youth. Alas, the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre is only a few steps away from the most lustrous and most expensive shopping centre in the kingdom (which I shall not deign to name).
It's too late now to get into a weighty and serious discourse. I'll write at greater length later.See more
